How Does Bed Bug Heat Treatment Work?
Getting Prepared
There is a small amount of preparation required by you prior to treatment. We will provide you a list of items to remove or to make sure you leave in the treatment area. There is no need to throw away personal belongings you genuinely want to keep!
As Treatment Begins...
Our team will prepare the room and set up our equipment. We will seal off the area to be treated and strategically place the heating ducts and fans to ensure the heat will be well-distributed. Infrared laser thermometers are used to monitor the temperatures throughout the space.
The Bed Bug Treatment
We use specialized equipment to heat the infested areas to 145° F. The area is then held at that temperature for up to 2 hours. Bed bugs cannot survive in an environment this hot when it is held for this amount of time. The temperature and time settings are proven to kill ALL life cycles of the bed bug, from eggs to adults.
Throughout the heat treatment process, our technicians are continually adjusting items in the treatment areas (moving pillows/cushions/clothes/flipping mattresses/taking beds apart). Moving these items during treatment helps to prevent the risk of cold pockets where bugs can hide.
Why Choose Heat Treatment?
No Harmful Chemicals
Advanced Bed Bug and Pest Services is one of very few exterminators that has the ability and equipment required to offer thermal heat remediation. We use specialized equipment to reach 145° degrees and maintain this temperature for up to 2 hours.
Proven to Work in One Treatment
This is the only proven way to effectively kill 99% of all bed bugs with only one treatment. If you choose traditional pesticide, the applications require more preparation (i.e. laundering all clothes and bedding, purchasing mattress covers, pulling apart all furniture, etc.) along with numerous follow up applications before you see any results.
3 Year Warranty
We apply a residual product after the bed bug heat treatment is completed just to ensure there are no re-infestations (in the event bed bugs are brought into the area again). We back it all with our industry-leading 3-year warranty.
Common Questions About Bed Bugs
How do I know we have bed bugs?
- Waking up with new bites, welts, or rashes. Bite marks may appear in rows and clusters and are typically found on the upper torso of the body.
- Dark spotting or blood droplets on the mattresses, bedding, or pillowcases.
- Observation of the insect or molted insect casings.
How do bed bugs survive?
Bed bugs are usually found in close proximity to beds because these pests need the blood of warm-blooded animals (i.e. you!) to survive. They can be found anywhere body heat and carbon dioxide from exhaled breath can support their biological processes. Bed bugs can survive for days, even weeks in hiding before coming back out to feed.
Where did our bed bugs come from?
Bed bugs are transported from place to place by climbing on to people or their belongings. Bed bugs may climb onto clothing or into purses, back packs, suitcases, etc.
How do we get started on removal?
Identification is the first step. There are many bugs that look like bed bugs, so an accurate identification is a critical first step to avoid costly treatment for the wrong bug. We have an extensive knowledge of bed bug infestations and will provide you with a free bed bug inspection of your property. We will then create an action plan to eliminate your bed bug infestation.
